The JFS educational intervention program is a free juvenile diversion program available to community professionals as a referral source for children who have engaged in firesetting behaviors. The Burn Institute has relationships with many school districts in San Diego County as a "second chance" opportunity in lieu of suspensions/expulsions for fire related incidents. The program is three part: assessment, referral and education. During the assessment, parents/guardians and children are screened to determine the "future fire risk score." Based on that score, the family may be referred into our counseling program and then into our educational class, or just directly into the educational class. All components of this program are completely free of charge and require no insurance.
